When training staff in the use of physical force it is important that the techniques provided enable staff to achieve the desired outcome, i.e., the physical control of an individual with minimal risk to all concerned or the successful defence of a person likely to be attacked. Therefore, it is fundamentally important that the physical skills taught to staff complement their ability to achieve the desired effect.
Physical use of force, like any other physical activity, requires the use of various physical motor skills. Motor skills can be defined as movements that are performed with a desired goal in mind. In sporting environments this may mean achieving such aims as holding a handstand in gymnastics. How to Choose a Topic for an Essay – Tips for Social Sciences and Humanities Students
Posted by admin in Social Sciences on November 15, 2011
College students tasked with choosing their own topic for an essay or term paper are usually at a loss given the multitude of issues and topics that they can choose from. Not knowing where to begin can be a cumbersome problem that leads to unnecessary delays. The following useful tips aim to lessen the burden that students majoring in the humanities and social sciences have to contend with when choosing a topic for an essay/report that they need to submit in class.
Tip#1
As a college student, develop the mindset that your professor will, sooner or later, ask you to write an essay which is likely to be more than 3 pages long. Think of it as part of college life aside from the tests and exams and perhaps, the booze and parties. Inevitably, you need to be keen about the different topics and issues discussed in class because it is likely that you’ll be asked to work on any one of them for a term paper or essay.
Tip#2
Understand your own interests and the issues you are currently dealing with or have dealt with in relation to the different topics and issues discussed in class. Using your personal experiences and interests and turning them into a topic for a term paper or essay (as long as they are related to the course) is a goldmine and helps you gain insight to something personal. Also, working on a topic that is close to your heart helps in keeping your motivation high. Students who end up dissatisfied and unmotivated to finish their term paper are those who are not really happy about the topic they chose to work on. Read the rest of this entry »
